It is known as “the eternally regenerating algae”, thanks to its continuous production of calcite crystals when it benefits from the gentle rays of the sun. Settling on rocks, it particularly likes calm waters close to the surface. It is found from the Atlantic Ocean to the Indian Ocean, including the Black Sea.
Notable for its almost unique ability to produce plant taurine, the perennial algae is known to be a source of detoxifying bioactive compounds. This plant taurine is notably more bioassimilable and more effective than the synthetic taurine found in the well-known energy drinks.
