Pink Grapefruit
(Citrus grandis)
Native to Southeast Asia, the grapefruit came to Europe in the 12th century via the Silk Road. This tree with emerald green foliage produces pretty, deliciously fragrant white flowers. Its very large fruit with rough yellow-green skin, with a tangy, bitter pulp, belongs to the citrus family.
Its name comes from the Dutch pompelmoes, with pompel meaning “thick” and limoes meaning “lemon”.
A vitamin powerhouse, grapefruit is an excellent tonic. Its juice is also extremely popular, both as a detox drink and for direct application on the skin for its revitalising properties.
